Camp Randall Stadium; Madison, WI

Food- 7/10

They had your typical stadium food options. They did have something really cool that I’d not seen before where you swipe your card to enter an area with a bunch of drinks and food and you grab whatever you want and just walk out and you get charged later in the game for how much you walked out with. So, I tried that. I grabbed a water and a Coke and a pretzel. I wanted a hot dog but they were out at the time. All 3 of those items were $20, so overall not a bad price.

Atmosphere- 6/10

I honestly expected a lot better from Wisconsin. #4 Alabama won 42-10. The student section wasn’t filled up until midway through the 1st quarter. There were multiple times during the game where it just was kinda dead in the stadium, even when it was still a close game. It did end up being a blowout, but for it being vs a top 5 team in Alabama and not hosting them in Madison for nearly 100 years, I expected it to be louder and more hype.

Stadium- 7/10

Walking up to the stadium, I honestly thought it was an academic building, but seeing a whole bunch of people walking into it, I figured it was the entrance. Once you walk through the metal detectors and gates, you’re immediately thrust into the bowels of the stadium. They had plaques up on the wall detailing the history of the program and players/coaches which was cool, but really hard to look at in detail with all the people around. It’s a clean stadium, intimate as well, extremely compact seating unfortunately.

City- 9/10

Madison is a really great city. Everyone is very nice, the neighborhood around Camp Randall really brought me back to my college days. I recommend getting there well in advance of kickoff as parking is really only on the streets around the stadium so it goes fast. I got there about an hour and a half before kickoff and had to park at Henry Vilas Park… got a $60 parking ticket. Very beautiful city and campus.

Overall- 8/10

Really solid experience, I expected more from it, but is still well worth a visit. Quaint neighborhood and stadium, decent food, potential for great atmospheres in big, crucial games.
